Introduction to Plants

– Differentiate plants from other living and Non-living things

– Recognize different parts of a plant: Leaves, Roots, Stems, Fruits and Flowers

– Grow a small plant from seed and observe its changes and growth over time

– Observe and understand that seed will need air, sunlight and water to stay alive and grow

– Document the growth of the plant (for older children who can draw)

Leaves

– Learn how stomata in the leaves help plants to “breathe”

– Observing the oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange

– Discover why leaves are living things

– Understand what causes leaves to have its green colour

– Engage the senses when creating the chlorophyll art using the leaves that are collected

Flowers

– Learn about the different parts of the flowers

– Understanding how flowers make more flowers

Roots

– Learn about what the roots of the plants do

– Understand the stages of growth for plants

– Learn the stages of growth

– Identifying some root vegetables that can be grown
